Our Story

2014-2015 The Beginning:

The DHS high school makerspace was born out of accidential research.

The writing was on the wall. (makerspace)

People were curious.  They started asking  the question. "What is a makerspace?"

Every library meeting, workshop, & conference we went to that year, makerspaces were the topic.

March with remaining library funds, I recieved approval to purchase 1 Sphero, 2 MakeyMakeys, 2 RaspberryPi, and 1 Arduino.

I purchased 2 screens with HDMI  for $200.

Then:

The Science & Physics dept. to bring their classes.

Stations were set up for students to rotate through.

Parents were invited to come and explore.

May field trip to Uof A Engineering and Computer Science Dept.

During the summer we had the opportunity to take students to the Hub for the Carl Bot Competition.

During summer collaborated with the Yell Cunty Public Library on their Teen Programming and did 2 days of makerspace with Sphero and MakeyMakey.

(Introduced the community to makerspace.)

2015-2016

Devised a plan.

Presented plan to principal for room design, furniture and cost.

Conference room was taken over. Furniture was purchased, picked up and put together.

Obtained resources through book vendor and magazine subscriptions.

Introduced coding clubs to the initial tech tools.

Attended an Arduino workshop at the Innovation Hub. (Gallery right.)

Purchased $800 in tech tools out of library programming budget.
